Lighting the Lantern is a Festival of Lights quest given by Ensemble in the Crystal Kingdom. The player is required to obtain a Prismatic Crystal Shard in their inventory before being able to start the quest.

Quest initiation

If the player has a Prismatic Crystal Shard in their inventory, an option to ask about the pretty crystal will be available while talking to Ensemble. Ensemble will initially scoff at the player and mention that they are surrounded by crystals, but after a little thought, he will ask for the player to hand over the Shard to see if it's worthwhile. If the player gives the Crystal to Ensemble, he will promise the player something in return for their efforts. He will task the player with gathering nine more Prismatic Shards before he can craft a reward.

Journal: I brought the sparkling crystal I found on a creature to the fashion designer Ensemble in the Crystal Kingdom, who promised he could create something amazing if I found 9 more of them! He thinks any critter in the whole of Equestria could be carrying them, but they're pretty rare, so I'd better start searching!

Gathering shards

The player may defeat any mobs for Loot chests as they see fit during this part in order to collect nine shards. However, as the shards have a low drop rate, a loot chest is not guaranteed to hold the item. A good bet is to find a smaller area with a lot of low-level mobs, such as the Gem Mines.

Quest completion

Once the player has gathered nine more shards, they must return to Ensemble and ask if it is enough. He will gladly accept the Crystals and starts his work on the reward. After completing, Ensemble asks the player to pay a hefty price of 5000 Bits for his handiwork. If the player lack the funds to pay for it, they can come back later once they have enough.

Upon payment, the player will acquire a Prismatic Lantern. In addition, 50 XP in all talents will also be rewarded for completing the quest.

It took some work, but I collected enough to create a pretty cool lantern! Ensemble said that if I find any more of the shards, I can always take them to him and he'll buy them off me!
